‘Hope springs eternal’, while that mantra may motivate the boys of summer a different
motivation is driving your Portland Association of Health Underwriters (PAHU). This time
of year is consumed with activities and efforts designed to deliver value to you our member.

The Spring Forum committee is busy putting the finishing touches on what is sure to be an
enlightening day of C.E. We have already been approved for 6 hours of continuing education
credit. This year the event moves to its new location, the Embassy Suites at the airport.
Whether or not you need C.E., you will leave this event with a better understanding of the
issues facing our industry. Also at this meeting, members will be swearing in your 2012-
2013 board members. The contribution from agents will be greatly expanded on this board
with agents/consultants making up half the voting board positions.

Another ‘value’ PAHU is delivering in 2012 are free C.E. webinars. In March Tim
Thompson presented an ethics credit and we are close to announcing our next webinar event.
Please check our website at www.pahuonline.org frequently for more details.

For those interested in a closer look at Health Underwriters please feel free to join the Oregon
contingent at the National Convention being held this year at the beautiful Wynn Hotel and
Casino in fabulous Las Vegas. You can find details at www.nahu.org. You can be sure that
what happens in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas. PAHU will gather the knowledge gained and
use it to improve our association.

Speaking of improvement; we are proud to announce that NAHU has recognized PAHU with
their “Silver Seal” award for 2012-2013. This award is given to high functioning local
associations who meet specific performance goals. The Silver Seal award is earned by only
the top 25% of all local associations!

Personally, I would like you to know that your membership matters! It’s thru your support
that we maintain influence in Salem. It’s that same support that has guided legislation in
Washington D.C. Think about where we were March 24th, 2010 and where we are today.
Although the fight is far from over, one cannot deny that our association is a powerful
lobbying body both here in Oregon and nationally. When you participate in Health
Underwriter events, whether on a local, state or national level, you make an impact. When
you choose to be a member you choose to have your voice heard. To that I say hooray!
